It would be no surprise if Manchester City made a move to sign a centre-forward in January.
What would be a shock is if they sold one of the few players in the squad who is capable of operating in that position.
City's pursuit of Harry Kane in the summer was well documented, although the subsequent failure of that approach and the departure of Sergio Aguero has left the Premier League champions with attacking midfielders at the point of the attack in the main.
Nevertheless, one of the club's forward players has been strongly linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium.

Barcelona in for Ferran
According to journalist Gerard Romero (h/t Sport Witness ), Barcelona are serious about signing Ferran Torres.
The Spain international had a strong start to the campaign before injury has ruled him out of action in recent weeks.
The layoff does not appear to have made the Blaugrana any less keen on the forward though and according to Moreno they are ready to bid €50 million (£42.4 million) for the 21-year-old. City are said to value Torres at a sum closer to €70 million (£59.3 million).
Torres only moved to the Etihad last summer for an initial £20.8 million fee, meaning they would be in for a substantial profit if they did receive their valuation.
Torres wants Barcelona move
According to the Manchester Evening News , Torres is also keen on making the switch to the Camp Nou.
"Torres is aware of how he is appreciated at the Nou Camp and has welcomed it," writes Simon Bajkowski.
"The big question still is whether Barcelona can back up their words with money. The club have been so poorly managed financially that they were forced to offload club figurehead Lionel Messi on a free to one of their rivals in summer, a year after refusing to entertain the idea of getting £100m for him."
It's added that City do view Torres as a possible star of the future and the player is unlikely to become too disruptive if he doesn't get the transfer he wants.
Gonzalez to be part of any Torres deal?
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, City may ask for Barcelona's young midfielder Nico Gonzalez to be included in a possible deal for Torres.
The 19-year-old is one of a number of exciting prospects to have recently emerged from the club's revered La Masia academy and this season he has cemented a place in the first-team squad, making 10 La Liga appearances.
Guardiola is said to be a huge fan of the playmaker and it's reported more discussions are set to be held between the two clubs over the winger.
