Manchester City's Bernardo Silva has received upgrades in a number of stats in the latest FIFA 22 squad update after a revitalised season under Pep Guardiola.
Silva struggled for game time last season at Man City and was rumoured with a move away from the club in the summer, but after being put back into Pep Guardiola's first-team plans, Silva has become one of City's most important players this season in a deeper midfield role.
His improvement in the defensive side of his game has been noticed by EA Sports - with the 27-year-old receiving upgrades in some defensive stats in the latest FIFA 22 squad update.
No longer playing on the wing, the Portugal international has dropped deeper into midfield and has used his dribbling ability and high work rate to make the position his own this season.
The latest FIFA 22 squad update was released on Friday, October 22 2021, with fellow Premier League clubs Manchester United, Brighton and Arsenal all receiving big changes based on their seasons so far.
The squad update is available to download now on all platforms including PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
So, what stats did Bernardo Silva receive upgrades in? And what other City players were updated? Let's take a look.
Due to Silva's defensive work rates and the box-to-box playstyle he's adapted this season, the Portuguese international has received upgrades in his ball control (90-91), standing tackle (45-48) and sliding tackle (63-65), whilst the midfielder also saw an increase in his potential rating, raising from 86 to 87.
The midfielder received a downgrade to his overall rating from 87 in FIFA 21 to 86 in FIFA 22, so the potential increase could indicate that EA know it was a harsh decision to downgrade Silva in FIFA 22.
Compared to his Man City teammates, Silva's 91 ball control puts him level with Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez as the players with the best ball control at the club, with Ilkay Gundogan (89), Jack Grealish (88) and Phil Foden (88) all lower rated.
And compared to other players in the Premier League, Silva has a better ball control stat than Jadon Sancho (90), Roberto Firmino (90), Paul Pogba (90) and Mohamed Salah (89), with Liverpool's Thiago the only player with a higher rating (92).
The only other City players to be affected by the update were Oleksandr Zinchenko as his potential rating dropped from 85 to 83, and Gundogan gained the leadership trait, with the midfielder having been given the captain armband multiple times over the last couple of weeks.
