Guardiola issues transfer update

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City are finished in the transfer market this summer after the arrival of Ruben Dias.

The 23-year-old joined City on Tuesday for a fee of £65.2 million and will provide a much-needed boost to Guardiola’s backline.

The club still have an eye on the market as they consider potential options at left-back in the wake of Benjamin Mendy’s poor performance against Leicester City on Sunday.

City's Champions League opponents confirmed

Manchester City will face Porto, Olympiacos and Marseille in the Champions League group stage after the draw was made in Geneva on Thursday.

City’s participation in the Champions League last season was ended by Lyon in the quarter-finals, and the Citizens will hope they can finally win the competition that has eluded them for so long.

Guardiola’s side have topped their group for the last three seasons, and have not failed to qualify for the knockout rounds since 2012/2013.

De Bruyne named UEFA Midfielder of the Year

City star Kevin De Bruyne has been named UEFA midfielder of the Year.

De Bruyne was nominated for a pair of awards - the Midfielder of the Season and UEFA Mens’ Player of the Year - after his fine form in 2019/2020.

The Belgian was the top assist provider in the Premier League last term, and he carried that form into the Champions League, where he produced sparkling performances against Real Madrid.

On his Midfielder of the Season award, De Bruyne said: “It’s obviously really nice. In the Champions League you play against the best players in the world and I want to compete with them, with my team to win and as an individual to be the best I can be. To win this award is really nice.”
