A police probe has been launched after a man was assaulted in Fife.

Officers raced to the Main Street area of Inverkeithing around 4pm on Tuesday April 20 amid reports of an 'ongoing disturbance '.

A probe has since been launched over the attack of the 44-year-old.

The victim did not need hospital treatment.

Panicked locals took to social media claiming a number of police cars and an ambulance were spotted racing through the town centre at the time of the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the Main Street area of Inverkeithing around 4.10pm on Tuesday, April 20 following a report of an ongoing disturbance and the assault of a 44-year-old man.

"The man did not require to be taken to hospital.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
