34-year-old man killed after being attacked by dog at recreational area, owner arrested

A man was attacked by a dog and died.

A 34-year-old man was attacked in broad daylight in a park in Fareham, Hampshire.

A 20-year-old man in the town was arrested on suspicion of keeping a dangerously runaway dog , police said.

Animal breed is currently unknown.

The attack occurred around 10:30 am on Wednesday at a recreational ground off Hilson Drive.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

A spokesman for the Hampshire Police Department said:

"As part of our investigation, a 20-year-old man from Fareham was arrested on suspicion of being the owner/responsible of a dog.

"He has not been charged. He was released from custody without delay, but an investigation continues while the inquiry continues.”

The victim's family has been identified and police have yet to name him.

 The market town of Fareham is halfway between Southampton and Portsmouth.

Last week, a childsuffered life-changing injuries after being bitten by a dog just 10 miles from Fareham.

In the town of Havant he was attacked by a three-year-old boy.

She was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
