A major road in South Wales is reportedly closed in both directions this morning after a crash.

Roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix reports that the The A48 Pyle Road, which runs between the large village of Pyle and Bridgend, has been closed in both directions.

Inrix says that the road, which runs almost parallel to the M4, was closed as a result of an collision and oil spillage from its junction with Heol-Y-Splot, near the former Royal Air Force station Stormy Down, to the A4229 (Pyle Roundabout).

The earliest reports of the accident came in just before 2.30am on Tuesday morning and the road remains closed, according to the online traffic monitoring service Inrix.

In an update at 3.34am, Inrix said: "A48 Pyle Road in both directions closed due to accident and oil spillage from Heol-Y-Splot (Stormy Down) to A4229 (Pyle Roundabout)."
