The main road through a South Wales village has reopened after being closed for nearly four hours due to what was described as a "police incident".

Roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix reported that the A4222 Cowbridge Road at Pontyclun was shut in both directions, between the The Ivor Arms Pub and Millfield Road, shortly before 9.20pm on Wednesday evening.

In an update at 1.03am this morning, Thursday June 17, Inrix said the road remained closed in both directions.

Inrix's alert read: "A4222 Cowbridge Road in both directions closed due to police incident from The Ivor Arms Pub to Millfield.

In a further update at 1.34am, Inrix said: "A4222 Cowbridge Road in both directions re-opened, police incident over from The Ivor Arms Pub to Millfield.

We are attempting to contact South Wales Police for more details.
