There are delays on the M6 this morning after a collision near Preston.

Highways England reported the incident at around 8.30am this morning (September 26) with the southbound carriageway being completely halted while emergency services and traffic officers attended the scene.

Soon after, Highways confirmed they were making efforts to open two lanes to allow traffic to pass through. At around 9.18am they confirmed they had opened two lanes.

However, two lanes are expected to remain closed while traffic officers treat a spillage onto the carriageway.

There is significant congestion southbound between junction 31 and junction 30 as a result of the incident. Traffic is queuing due to the two lanes remaining closed.
