Luis Figo has denied the 'urban myth' that he had a romantic relationship with Pep Guardiola when they were teammates at Barcelona .

Figo and Manchester City boss Guardiola played in the same Barcelona team in the 1990s.

Figo is married to Helen Svedin who he met while playing for Barca, and the couple now have three children together, Daniela, Martina and Stella.

Guardiola is married to his teenage sweetheart Cristina Serra and they also have three children - Maria, Marius and Valentina.

Figo and Guardiola were close friends and roomed together while they played for the Catalan giants.

But former Portugal international Figo said rumours of anything more between them were false.

He told magazine ICON: "Guardiola was a great friend.

"He helped me a lot. He was my roommate, but there was nothing. I like women."

Figo was asked why he thought no players in La Liga had come out as gay.

He replied: "Football is very cruel.

"You play every Sunday and you'd be criticised for that and not your performance.

"It will be for protection [that nobody has come out], not because of shame."

Figo also talked about a cheeky comment about his wife made by former Barcelona team-mate Ronaldo.
