A lorry overturned on the M6 forcing the closure of the motorway in Lancashire.
Police, paramedics and Highways North West were called to the scene at junction 33 on the southbound carriageway at around 11.15pm last night (April 18) after the HGV crashed and flipped.
A closure was put in place between junctions 34 at Lancaster and 32 at Preston while emergency services attended, with police warning motorists that the route would remain shut for hours.
An oil spillage also resulted on the motorway following the incident, adding to the delays.
Pictures from the scene show the lorry on its side along the motorway, although no serious injuries resulted from the crash police confirmed.
A spokesperson for Lancs Road Police said: "Overturned wagon M6 J33, thankfully no serious injuries. M6 South from J34 will be shut for the next couple of hours whilst we get it back on its feet."
A Highways North West spokesperson added: "The M6 southbound #J34 (#Lancaster #Morecambe A683) to #J32 (#BroughtonInterchange #Blackpool #PrestonNorth) is in the process of being closed to recover an overturned HGV.
"Traffic Officers, @LancsRoadPolice, @NWAmbulance and Recovery are currently at scene."
The HGV has since been recovered from the motorway.
The M6 reopened shortly before 5am.
