A huge lorry caused traffic chaos in Edinburgh after it got stuck underneath a low bridge.

Edinburgh Live reported that huge tailbacks formed at the bridge, with traffic left gridlocked near Cameron Toll roundabout and shopping centre yesterday afternoon.

The lorry was partly crushed due to attempting to squeeze underneath the height limit.

Emergency services were called to the scene to help clear the road and police shut Old Dalkeith Road while they did this.

An eyewitness at the scene told Edinburgh Live that both the lorry and train bridge have suffered damage as a result of the crash.

However, they added that "all staff dropped to street from the lorry" with there thought to have been no serious injuries from the incident.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We were made aware of a crash involving a lorry which struck a bridge at Cameron Toll in Edinburgh shortly after 2.45pm on Thursday, 16 September, 2021.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene and the road is closed."

The road reopened later on in the day once the lorry was removed.
