Liverpool Man of the Match
I would go for Curtis Jones.
But it was a tough night for Liverpool against Atalanta in the Champions League.
Let us know your man of the match below.
FT: Liverpool 0-2 Atalanta
Second-half strikes from Josip Ilicic and Robin Gosens hand Atalanta victory.
Liverpool remain top of their Champions League group but will be disappointed by the manner of the display.
We’re into the 72nd minute and Liverpool haven’t had a shot on target. It’s been that bad.
Well we can’t say Atalanta don’t really deserve their lead.
They have looked the most threatening.
Alert goalkeeping from Alisson there to snuff out a decent break for Atalanta. Slides out towards the edge of his box and gathers it.
Liverpool still struggling to really get a foothold in the game from an attacking point of view, though.
How long before we see Firmino or Jota?
Let’s hope it’s a better 45 this time around.
I might fall asleep if not....
Atalanta had more possession in the first half than Liverpool, 51%-49%. That doesn’t happen too often at Anfield.
HT: Liverpool 0-0 Atalanta
That wasn’t up to much, and was in keeping with most of Liverpool’s Champions League games so far this season.
Atalanta may end up rueing those missed chances during the opening quarter.
However, Liverpool did show some signs of getting things together towards half-time.
I would expect some changes shortly, though, whether that’s during the break or before the hour.
That might catch out the Italians.
Liverpool’s best chance of the half from Salah there.
And that probably sums up this first 45. His right-footed effort goes over the bar.
Divock Origi has been anonymous.
Liverpool Half-Time Player Ratings
Alisson Becker 7
Good save at his near post from cheeky Gosens drive.
Neco Williams 5
Targeted by Atalanta and struggled as a consequence, but didn’t stop offering himself going forward.
Joel Matip 8
No messing about when required to clear and commanded the defence impressively. Even turned up on the edge of the Atalanta area at one point.
Rhys Williams 6
Kept matters simple, read danger well and decent distribution.
Kostas Tsimikas 6
Swung in some decent crosses first half and involved in an ongoing battle with Hateboer.
Gini Wijnaldum 7
Some good tackles and interceptions as Atalanta pressed hard during the opening quarter and positionally disciplined.
James Milner 6
Looked to move Liverpool forward but passing wasn’t always on point. On the end of some heavy challenges.
Curtis Jones 6
Plenty of energy and sought to inject that into the Reds’ play during a dismal first 45 minutes.
Mohamed Salah 6
Fire Liverpool’s only first-half shot over and wasn’t given much room in which to race.
Divock Origi 5
Clobbered on several occasions and while regularly showing for the ball, he did little with it.
Sadio Mane 6
One or two moments of threat before the break but hounded out for the most part.
