Wijnaldum 'offered new contract'
Liverpool are in talks with Gini Wijnaldum regarding a new contract report Football Insider.
The Reds have moved to tie down the majority of their squad over the past 18 months, and with Jurgen Klopp and James Milner committing their futures to Liverpool last week, Anfield bosses have now turned their attentions to the Dutchman.
The 29-year-old’s current contract expires in 2021 and the report claims he is set to be offered an improved, extended deal after establishing himself as one of the club’s most trusted lieutenants.
Doyle on Minamino
Ian Doyle’s currently over in Qatar getting ready for tonight’s game.
But he’s taken some time out from sunning himself to offer an update on Takumi Minamino and his medical following his story earlier today.
Aston Villa moments missed
Connor Dunn was keeping a close eye on proceedings at Villa Park last night.
Here are some of the moments you might have missed...
No Gini Wijnaldum to face Monterrey this evening so Jurgen Klopp will have to make at least one change.
However, I’d be tempted to make a few more.

Reds 'wait on Werner move'
Could Liverpool make a move for Timo Werner next month?
Red Bull Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has confirmed the Bundesliga side have made a bid to sign Erling Braut Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg next month report the Independent, with the striker lined up as a potential replacement for the German.
And should Leipzig land the Norwegian, ESPN claim the Reds could proceed with a move for Werner.
What the papers say
Caoimhe O’Neill’s been flicking through today’s papers having a look at all the national media reaction to last night’s loss to Aston Villa.
It does not make pretty reading for the EFL.
Elliott absence explained

That makes sense.

Minamino transfer update
Looks like Takumi Minamino has moved a step closer to joining Liverpool.
Elliott left at home
This is a surprise.
Harvey Elliott won’t be flying out to Qatar with Ki-Jana Hoever, Sepp Ven Den Berg and Caoimhin Kelleher instead making the trip.
Very odd. Granted Liverpool are light in defence at the moment but Elliott showed just how good he is last night.
And with Alisson, Adrian and Andy Lonergan already in Qatar, a fourth goalkeeper seems excessive.
Fancy some early-morning reading?
Paul Gorst and Connor Dunn were at Villa Park last night and here’s their very best match reaction...
Critchley on Villa defeat
Despite that scoreline, how good were the kids last night?
Harvey Elliott was arguably the best player on the pitch against Aston Villa with that 5-0 scoreline really flattering the hosts.
Liverpool’s youngsters can hold their heads high and here’s Neil Critchley on his side’s performance.
Rise and shine!
