Liverpool midfielder Fabinho believes Man City are the title favourites for this season after strengthening their squad with Jack Grealish this summer.

City won the Premier League last season by 12 points, wrapping up their third title in four years to wrestle the crown back from Anfield. They then strengthened their squad with £100m man Grealish signing from Aston Villa to further boost their creative options, although they failed to sign a striker to replace the departed Sergio Aguero.

Despite that, Fabinho believes that when the defending champions strengthen their squad it automatically makes them favourites for the new season.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, via The Mirror, he said: "I think Manchester City are the favourites, as they’re the defending champions and still keep strengthening themselves, which is what they do every season.

"They, even being champions, winning titles, always want to reinforce, so they are favourites of the season."

Fabinho also labelled Chelsea as potential challengers but bigged up his own side's chances because of the winning experience in the squad.

"Chelsea, current Champions League champions, keep buying, too. I think these two teams come really strong, too, and are the favourites.

"Even though Liverpool haven’t spent as much as other clubs in this window, several players have renewed their contracts, which is very important for the club. I was one of those players.

"We signed Konate, who is an excellent defender, Harvey Elliot came back on loan, which is something important for us, Minamino, too.

“I believe our team is very strong, it’s the same team that won the Premier League two years ago. More experienced players, more important games in the bag. These are things that make the team stronger. And if you want to have a winning team, we have to keep the most important pieces and that’s what Liverpool have been doing."
