There is no question Liverpool are on the cusp of doing something truly extraordinary in the world of football.

The Reds look more than likely to claim the Premier League trophy while it would also not be unfeasible to suggest they could defend their Champions League crown and claim the FA Cup this season too.

For any team, including Jurgen Klopp's side, even achieving one of those trophies in any campaign would be sensational -  particularly when you're following on from a year where the European Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup all made their way to Anfield.

The question next for the German manager, though, is how he maintains this supreme run and strengthens from a position of already significant power.

Former Liverpool captain Paul Ince detailed his thoughts on the matter and explained what Klopp must try and do.

"People have said this is a great Liverpool team but it's not yet," Ince told the ECHO in an exclusive chat.

"I think what they're doing is great - the players and Klopp - but great teams win trophies year in year out.

"They've got a big chance to do that but we'll need to look back in a few years to see what they've done to say that was a great Liverpool team.

"Obviously it's now a question of how they get better in the future, it's tough because they've got some young exciting players who are only going to improve but football things change - we saw that with Philippe Coutinho, suddenly someone like Barcelona come in and they're off off.

"It's a case of keeping the best players at Liverpool. Will someone come in for Van Dijk? When Barcelona or Real Madrid come knocking it's hard to say no.

"That's the thing about being a victim of your own success, when you're doing so many great things like Liverpool are doing it alerts other big club like Barcelona or Madrid.

"And it's hard to say no as a player when they come in. You look at someone like Cristiano Ronaldo, you get to the stage where you've won league and Champions League - are you prepared to do it year in year out or do you want another challenge elsewhere?

"That's what Klopp is going to have to deal with and he'll have to look at that in the future and build his team around that.

"Of course what he's done in four or five years is unbelievable in building a team that can win leagues and finals with the right mentality - there's a great spirit among the players too which will help.

"You might have to think about a world-class replacement for one of the front three if they get injured. You always have to keep improving you never know about injuries, suspensions or when someone might come in to take one of your best players."

Former midfielder Ince, who was also a captain of Manchester United winning two Premier League titles at Old Trafford among a number of other trophies, also spoke about the pressures of winning a title while explaining what he thinks Liverpool need to be focusing on and detailing his belief that the Reds "deep down" know they've won the league this term.

"I think they've got to attack all three titles," Ince said.

"When you think about Liverpool in the 80s and United in 90s, Liverpool have a chance now to dominate for the next few years and to do that you've got to win trophies.

"If you win all three this year then you can start talking about a great Liverpool team.

"They were fortunate the kids obviously did them in favour in the FA Cup but I'm not sure they'll play away at Stamford Bridge.

"But all the decisions Klopp has made seem to have been right and everything has gone according to plan with the players having their winter break, everything now suits them nicely.

"They've got a few tough games coming up and a lot can change in the next few weeks.

"The pressure does affect you but I think they're ready to party and get the league over the line.

"When the season started this year Liverpool probably would have thought it would be even tougher this year with City. But to see where they are now I'm sure any fan would take winning the league and getting knocked out the Champions League and FA Cup at the start of the season.

"We know how hard it is to retain the Champions League and the FA Cup depends on the draw and with Liverpool what side Klopp puts out.

"It was all about winning the league this year for Liverpool. It's what the fans have been waiting for.

"Because of the gap being so big now though, and them having to lose so many games which you cant see happening, it's up to the players to not lose their focus on what's in front of them in terms of winning the title.

"But they have got a manager who will allow them to do that though and that is the great thing about it.

"It sounds stupid when Klopp says it's not over yet because we all think it is but the manager is just making sure his players are focused game in game out.

"Deep down they will know they've won the title but also they will want to become invincible - so if they can do both it will be unbelievable.

"The focus has to be there week in week out. But their mentality attitude towards every game, they never step off the gas, that's why they are so consistent. It's not the be all and end all but it's an extra motivation.

"The players would be immortal - that's the main thing for Klopp too.

"And of course he wants to win everything but it'll be a case of win the league and then go from there.

"Even if they get knocked out of both competitions they've still got the invisible tag to go for that everyone is talking about."
