Alisson Becker 7

Big save from Morata midway through first half, no chance for goal and distribution on point. Little to do otherwise.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Mixed bag throughout, solid in defence and took up good attacking positions but delivery too inconsistent, particularly from set-pieces. Frustrating for the youngster.

Joe Gomez 7

Needed to be alert during the opening moments and the steadier of the central defensive duo. Used possession well when bringing ball out of defence. Booked.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Uncharacteristically unsure early on, had some problems with Correa and gifted chance to Morata. Improved second half but not his best night.

Andy Robertson 7

Great defending prevent a certain goal for Morata and got forward so often first half. Less of an attacking threat after the interval, though.

Fabinho 7

Shook off a wobbly start with some good tackles and interceptions to help Liverpool respond and get going. More up and down second half.

Jordan Henderson 7

His 450th career game, the skipper popped up everywhere in the first half but not quite enough quality. Kept going after break, and so close with hooked shot just wide. A worry he went off injured, though.

Gini Wijnaldum 6

The more attack-minded of the middle three, moved the ball well but lacked sufficient threat. Not enough creativity to unpick the Atletico defence despite tons of good work.

Mohamed Salah 6

Running battle with Felipe in which the referee was conned a few times by the Atletico man. Saw shot deflected off target first half and sent free header wide just after break. Subbed.

Roberto Firmino 6

His close control was too much for the Atletico defence at times but needed to be in game more before break. Same story afterwards.

Sadio Mane 6

Took a while to find his rhythm but threatened with his pace and directness. Booked and then subbed at half-time, presumably to prevent a red card with Atletico on the wind-up.
