Jamie Carragher has insisted Liverpool don't need to sign another centre-back after Fabinho's stand-out performance against Chelsea.
The Brazilian midfielder, who deputised in that role at times last season, was once again called on at the heart of the backline.
With Joe Gomez and Joel Matip injured and Dejan Lovren sold to Zenit St Petersburg, it was Fabinho alongside Virgil van Dijk against the Blues.
Some supporters have suggested that the Reds should recruit another centre-back to replace Lovren, as a result.
However, with Thiago adding another option in midfield after his arrival from Bayern Munich this week, Carragher believes that Fabinho's performance at Stamford Bridge has proven Liverpool don't need to reinvest in that position.
“There’s been talk of Liverpool needing a centre-back. Lovren’s left, Matip you can’t trust fitness-wise and that leaves Joe Gomez.
"But I thought he was outstanding today. Normally players who play in the centre of the pitch - certainly holding midfield role - read the game really well, and they have a great understanding of the game.
"At times watching Fernandinho play in that position last season for Manchester City, I thought he was excellent, and so was Fabinho today.
A £41m+ deal has been agreed to bring the forward to Anfield from Wolves, and he's ready to kick on for Jurgen Klopp.

"That puts to bed any thought of Liverpool thinking they need another centre-back because they’ve got so many midfielders, they need to get those games.
"I think if he drops in at centre-back at times, then it’s another space in midfield that other players can play as well.
"He was outstanding. I actually thought would Jurgen Klopp put Virgil van Dijk on the right and put Fabinho on the left, to deal with the pace of Timo Werner, not because the manager knew he was going to play from the left, but even when he plays central, he loves that left channel, but he didn’t.
"He left Fabinho there. Two or three times in the first-half, you thought he was going to get really exposed, but he dealt with it superbly.”
