Leeds United face the prospect of a central-defensive injury nightmare ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester United.

Leeds, who finished ninth in the Premier League table last season, will travel to Old Trafford a-week-on-Saturday to lock horns with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

However, the Whites are facing the prospect of travelling to Old Trafford significantly light on numbers at centre-back, with doubts and concerns currently over four of them.

Both Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk were forced off during the Whites' 3-2 pre-season friendly defeat to Real Betis at Loughborough University on Saturday. The Spaniard suffered terribly on the injury front last season following his move to Elland Road from Real Sociedad, restricting him to just 15 Premier League appearances,

As reported by LeedsLive, both were forced off either side of the half-time interval. Llorente, though no further updates have yet been issued on his condition, was forced off after just 24 minutes. He did not appear to leave the field in too much discomfort, but his track record, certainly in the last 12 months, has not been overly positive when it has come to injury issues.

Struijk, meanwhile, was taken off after Betis midfielder Nabil Fekir kicked out at the defender.

Leeds, including head coach Marcelo Bielsa, have yet to provide an update on either of them, meaning their latest pre-season tussle against Dutch giants Ajax on Wednesday will give a clear indicator of whether or not they are doubts for the clash with United in just under a fortnight's time.

Whilst both Llorente and Stuijk were forced off against Betis, Bielsa was already without club captain Liam Cooper and youngster Charlie Cresswell.

Cooper has not played a single minute of Leeds' pre-season programme so far, whilst Cresswell suffered a blow to his head in their 2-1 defeat to League One outfit Fleetwood Town last week.

Although Leeds have not yet issued any updates on when the aforementioned quartet could all feature, the only senior centre-back currently available for selection, should Cooper, Struijk, Llorente and Cresswell be ruled out for the 14 August clash, is German Robin Koch.

Koch started Leeds' pre-season meetings with both Blackburn Rovers and Betis.
