Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Nat Phillips misses out against Chelsea due to injury.
The Reds have suffered unbelievable injury luck this season and now Philips is the latest man to be ruled out.
The 23-year-old impressed against Sheffield United on Sunday but has been replaced by Fabinho in the XI to face Thomas Tuchel's side, with Klopp confirming Phillips absence is due to injury.
“In general, if you have options then it makes you stronger but it’s always players coming back, when they’re back on the bench and they’re not injured any more - this is good and we have to make sure we try to use them as early as possible," Klopp told Sky Sports ahead of kick-off.
"With Fab, it was necessary because Nat is out, but it’s brilliant news.”
Fabinho had missed six weeks of action but his return to the fold comes at the perfect time, given Phillips' injury.
Klopp had hinted that the Brazilian could be utilised in midfield again but with Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson and now Phillips out, the Liverpool boss was left with little choice.
“Both (roles) are possible. This is true. It’s good, it gives us options in different moments,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“If we can find a way to bring Fab back in midfield, in some games that will be quite helpful.
“The most consistent player this season is Gini Wijnaldum. Long may it continue. He plays the six, but he plays pretty much all these positions.
“But with Fab in the six, in some games would be absolutely helpful so we will see.”
