A killer who stabbed his flatmate to death over a bad haircut is facing life behind bars.

Jairo Sepulveda-Garcia knifed David Lopez-Fernandez six times after he gave him a trim with clippers.

He was convicted of murdering the 32-year-old Spaniard yesterday.

Jurors heard how Mr Lopez-Fernandez knocked on Sepulveda-Garcia’s door asking if he wanted a haircut in the squat they shared in Bethnal Green, east London.

Sepulveda-Garcia, 37, later told police how the barber cut him with the clippers before a row started.

Other housemates heard the victim’s screams and found his killer standing with a large kitchen knife in his hand.

Cath Carrie, from the Crown Prosecution Ser-vice, said: “This was a mindless murder over a trivial matter. David Lopez-Fernandez had moved to London to start a new life and this was cruelly snatched away from him.

“Mr Lopez-Fernandez had only been in the country for three weeks and was not armed when he went to Sepulveda-Garcia’s room and offered to give him a haircut.

“He could not have predicted the violence that would ensue.”

Sepulveda-Garcia dumped the knife in a park before handing himself into police following the attack in February.

James Mulholland, prosecuting, said: “He was dead in less than half an hour, such was the severity of the assault upon him.”

Sepulveda-Garcia will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court tomorrow.
