Kiki Bertens in ‘fake injury’ row after she’s taken off court in wheelchair as Errani accuses her of lying about cramp

IRATE Italian Sara Errani accused Kiki Bertens of faking injury after an explosive French Open clash.

After a punishing 7-6 3-6 9-7 second-round win, the sobbing Dutchwoman was escorted off court in a wheelchair, wincing in agony.

Bertens, who saved a match point, suffered with severe cramp and had 45 minutes of treatment with a physio post-match.

But Errani, a former Roland Garros runner-up, stormed off Court 14 without any form of congratulation when the three-hour match was over.

Errani, 33, blasted: “I don’t like it when somebody is joking on you.

"She played an amazing match, but I don’t like the situation.

“One hour she’s injured, then she runs like never. I don’t like that.

“She goes out of the court on the chair, and now she’s in the locker perfect, in the restaurant. I don’t like these things. I’m sorry.

“I congratulated her for the match. Then after the people say to me that I’m unfair person.

“It’s funny for me these things. I don’t think she had a good attitude on court. I didn’t like that.”

Qualifier Errani, who has previously served a doping ban, openly mocked Bertens and even hit a dinked underarm serve into the net by mistake.

No5 seed Bertens, 28, said: “She can say whatever she feels like.

"Maybe I should take some more acting classes or should pursue a career in that?

“I didn’t feel really good on court. All the time the cramps were coming and going again.

“I started a total body cramp. It was my left leg, right foot, both hands. A lot of places.

“I kept on fighting and I still don’t know how I managed to win.”

No10 seed Victoria Azarenka, the US Open runner-up, was thrashed 6-2 6-2 by Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, who had treatment for a fall.

Schmiedlova, 26, has now won two matches in a row after arriving in Paris on the back of a 12-match Grand Slam losing streak.
