Khloe Kardashian has rushed to defend sister Kim after she sparked an outcry with her controversial “million dollar” 40th birthday island party, which some branded "tone-deaf".
The reality star hunkered down in a tropical island retreat with her nearest and dearest to celebrate her milestone birthday.
The group of less than 30 people jetted out on October 20, returning five days later.
Kim has been branded "tone deaf" by many for the trip, but sister Khloe has come to her defence, becoming the first of the famous family to speak out about the polarising beach getaway that took place at Marlon Brando's The Brando Resort in Tahiti.
Appearing on Wednesday's Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 36-year-old told how the trip was a “beautiful experience” and she doesn't want billionaire Kim to focus on anything but that.
“I don't want that to overshadow all the greatness that happened,” the mum-of-one said.
The famous family’s luxury vacation came as the world reels under strict coronavirus restrictions as the pandemic sweeps the globe.
Kim’s own home state of California is under a non-essential travel ban.
But the socialite didn’t seem too bothered by the rules as she ignored the ban to jet her family off to Tahiti in a private plane.
Ellen pried Khloe for more information, asking about the controversy surrounding the trip.
In an attempt to side-set the line of questioning, Khloe said: “I haven't heard a lot about it, but I did hear that people were upset that we all went out town [but] I don't really know the extent of it, but this year is a frustrating year. I get it.
"I think there's so many frustrations going on for everybody, but also, it's her 40th,” she attempted to excuse.
“This is something she really wanted to do for us... it was such a nice thing.”
Khloe revealed how the whole clan had taken precautions before going away.
She continued: “All of the precautions and everything that we took and being there and how grateful everyone was for the tourist aspect of it - so many people said that we were their first party or guests that they've had in months and what it's done for them to be able to pay their bills or do stuff for their family.
“Just hearing those messages when we were there, we felt really good.
“And we did it in the safest way I could imagine someone doing it.
“It was such a beautiful experience and I want Kim to focus on how beautiful it was and what she did for everybody.
“I don't want that to overshadow all the greatness that happened.”
She went on to explain how the “20-25” people didn’t know where they were going until they got on the private jet.
“No one knew where we were going,” she said, adding, “we didn't find out until on the plane. And it was so special.”
“We were told three nice outfits for dinners or something like that but other than that we had no idea,” Khloe revealed of the mystery trip.
“It was the coolest experience to be that surprised.”
The family were put up in a luxurious resort in French Polynesia. It has just 35 villas.
Kim was joined by a number of her friends and family members, including sisters Kourtney, Khloe and Kendall, brother Rob, and mom Kris Jenner.
Kris' beau Corey Gamble was also there, as was Kourtney's ex Scott Disick and Khloe's ex Tristan Thompson.
Kim's guests were treated to lavish dinners, spa treatments and guided treks of the island.
Kim continued to defiantly post about her birthday treats after she sparked furore with her trip.
The mum-of-four dared to drive her fans wild with envy as she showed off her piles of expensive gifts to followers.
