Since November, Derek's condition has continued to improve, but slowly.
He no longer has covid but is dealing with the effects it took on his body and vital organs and remains in hospital.
But while presenting GMB last week, Kate told co-host Ben Shephard and millions of viewers at home that she hasn't seen him at all this year.
According to Chronicle Live, she said: "Well, I haven't been able to see him, Ben. I haven't seen him since Christmas, which of course means he's back into a situation where he's looking at strangers in masks...
'And I think that's the situation for everybody, they've got somebody in the hospital at the moment, it's not unique. It's tough."
Having great sympathy for other families in a similar situation, Kate added: "It's also the same for people in care homes. And when you're someone like him who is dealing with a consciousness problem and trying to emerge, I can't help but fear it's not helpful."

And then on Friday's show after boxing legend Frank Bruno told her to give Derek his regards, she replied: "Unfortunately I'm not allowed to and I haven't been for two months, but I shall try and pass that message on."
Last week, Kate's ITV co-star Lorraine Kelly took aim at rule-breakers when Kate's family have been so much trauma because of coronavirus.
She said: "Because of what happened to her, it brought it home to all of us at work just how serious this is.
“That’s why I get so upset when I see people having raves and not wearing their masks, and all these crazy theorists who say the pandemic is not a real thing.”
