Kate Garraway was quick to laugh off a jibe from her Good Morning Britain co-star today.

The TV and radio presenter was back at the helm of the ITV news programme on Friday alongside Ben Shephard.

But showbiz reporter Richard Arnold couldn't help but point out Kate's flamboyant look for the last show of the week.

And the jibe came before Kate had even arrived in the studio.

"Sorry, I’ve just been rather thrown by Kate popping into the studio," Richard said to newsreader Pip Thompson.

"She looks like a bag of Chewits."

He laughed while a stunned Pip joked: "He is so rude. Let’s get Alex with the weather now, who’s much less rude."

Kate, 54, was rocking a 70s inspired look, pairing bright purple trousers with a psychedelic-style blouse with green, blue and pink swirls.

Later, Ben began laughing as they started their hosting duties on the show.

Kate went for the 70s look on today's show

"What’s your problem?" Kate asked her GMB co-host to which he replied: "Well, as Richard said, you’ve come as a packet of Chewits."

"I’ve come as a packet of Chewits," Kate, responded embracing the comparison, "I have."

As they moved on, Ben joked to guest Jacqui Smith: "There’s a fuel crisis, the pumpkins might not be there. Singlehandedly, you are the personification of what we need: Kate’s trying to raise the temperatures, and you’re coming as a Halloween pumpkin.”

Kate replied: "We are facing another winter of discontent, which was the winter of ’79, was it? So I\m trying to bring the early 70s, the free love. The Age of Aquarius."

Ben found it funny

But viewers were loving the look.

"I gotta know @[email protected] where your lovely top is from !! ? The swirly whirly one," tweeted one.

Another said: "@GMB love @kategarraway outfit on this morning’s show! Where is it from?"

"I adore @kategarraway's colourful outfits," a third added.

Earlier this month Kate distracted GMB viewers with another of her outfit choices.

Kate opted for a bright green dress with puffy, dotted dark blue sleeves - the day after Susanna was mocked by viewers for wearing her 'dressing gown' to work.

But the illusion of Katie's dress made it look like she was wearing a tabard - and viewers hit social media to talk about it.
