Kate Ferdinand is offering support to blended families after having struggled with becoming a step-mum herself.

The 30-year-old has launched a platform, called Blended, for those in a similar position, with the former TOWIE star - who is married to Rio Ferdinand - sharing the news earlier.

Announcing the project on Instagram, she recalled the difficulties she faced when she became step-parent to her husband's three children; Lorenz, 15, Tate, 13, and Tia, 10.

She said that their family had been made complete with the arrival of the couple's first child together, 12-month-old son Cree - who she said was the "icing on the cake."

In the post, which included the logo of the new platform, Kate said it has at times been challenging raising the three older children - following the death of their mother, Rebecca Ellison, in 2015.

She wrote: "As you all know we are a blended family. I am a step mum to my three beautiful big kids Lorenz, Tate & Tia who unfortunately lost their mum at a very young age. Now [I'm also] a biological mum to our beautiful blessing Cree."

"Being a step mum to three children who have been through so much and a husband who's wife passed away brings a unique set of challenges," she continued.

Kate said there have been "many times" that she has felt "lost, confused and not sure where to turn," adding: "When I first became a step-parent I felt very isolated and alone. I just didn't know who to talk to."

The mum-of-four said that as her journey continues she has realised there is "a real need for a place to connect and get advice" from others going through similar experiences.

Introducing the platform, she wrote: "So here we have it @blended - a safe space for us to all share our blended family experiences and support each other along this journey."

Kate said she hopes to share "some personal experiences along the way" as well as advice from professionals. She added that there will be lots of discussions and quotes too.

The post was flooded with praise, with her husband Rio writing: "So proud of my lady. Warms my heart seeing you so passionate about this. You are a blessing."

And in the first post on the Blended account, she described the project as a "community for blended families."

She wrote: "Becoming part of a blended family whether it's through a break up, fostering, adopting, loss etc brings so much happiness and joy but it can be extremely difficult and emotional when trying to navigate a new unknown territory."

Kate added: "I really wanted a place we were all able to share experiences, advice and to feel we aren’t alone. I hope this can be a safe place for us all."

She concluded: "December is a particularly hard time of year for many people in blended families, so it seemed the best time to launch. Welcome to the BLENDED family."
