Jurgen Klopp has revealed the impact Adrian has already made on the Liverpool dressing room as he saluted the goalkeeper's Rocky road to redemption in Istanbul.

Adrian, making his full debut for the Reds, conceded a penalty when downing Chelsea substitute Tammy Abraham in extra time to allow Jorginho to earn the Londoners a 2-2 draw and take the UEFA Super Cup to penalties.

However, the Spaniard then saved Chelsea's final spot kick from Abraham to give Liverpool victory at Vodafone Park on Wednesday night.

And Reds boss Klopp made an inevitable cinematic comparison while praising the new boy.

“What a story, ADRIAN!” said the Reds boss. “Like Rocky after he lost against Apollo Creed, I think.

“He kept his nerves. He is really loud in the dressing room already.

“It’s so good for him. I don’t think he’s won a lot in his life, so I’m really happy for him.”

Sadio Mane scored twice – one in the second half, one in extra time – after Olivier Giroud had given Chelsea a first-half lead.

Liverpool were second best for large periods of the game but did enough to secure their fourth UEFA Super Cup and Klopp's second trophy of his tenure.

“It’s really early in the season and it’s already our third game of the season, so we’ve had to fight and we did,” said the Reds boss.

“It’s about winning it and we did that, so now it’s onwards. It was like a boxing fight, proper knocks from both sides.

“I think nobody in the stadium wanted two more 15 minutes. It was really a killer, but we came through. I’m not sure about the penalty but who cares now.”
