Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and other members of the Reds squad took to social media on Tuesday evening to issue a joint statement providing their damning verdict on the European Super League.

The proposal for the league has been met with widespread condemnation ever since reports of it first broke on Sunday afternoon.

But the scheme now looks on the verge of collapse amid reports that Chelsea and Manchester City are set to pull out of the tournament.

At just after 9pm Henderson, along with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Milner, all posted the same, strongly worded statement.

It read: "We don't like it and we don't want it to happen. This is our collective position.

"Our commitment to this football club and its supporters is absolute and unconditional. You'll Never Walk Alone."

The posts will put further pressure on the Liverpool owners to join Chelsea and City in withdrawing, and they also may well come under pressure to sell the club following the failed Super League venture.

It comes after the likes of Premier League stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Luke Shaw also criticised the Super League on their social media accounts.

And with Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward now to stand down at the end of the season, Liverpool's FSG owners may be strongly considering their options.

While the Super League is still yet to be officially scrapped, it looks only a matter of time before the plug is pulled completely.

In Spain, there are reports that Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are also strongly considering walking away from the competition.

And Real Madrid owner Florentino Perez's brainchild looks to be crumbling before his very eyes.
