Yves Bissouma would be the ideal transfer recruit to bolster Liverpool’s midfield this summer, reckons John Barnes.

Various outlets have suggested that the Brighton & Hove Albion player is on Jurgen Klopp’s radar and Barnes concurs with fellow Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher in believing that the Mali international would fit the bill at Anfield.

Following Bissouma’s man-of-the-match display in the Seagulls’ goalless draw at home to Everton on Monday, Carragher declared that he expects the bidding to start for the player at the end of this season with his current employers able to demand “top dollar” for him.

There seems to be a degree of uncertainty over Liverpool’s midfield going forward with Gini Wijnaldum now less than three months away from potentially becoming a free agent and question marks continuing over the suitability of Thiago Alcantara within the team’s system.

However, Barnes believes Bissouma possesses the type of attributes needed to bolster the reigning Premier League champions’ engine room as they now face up to the reality of a trophyless campaign.

He told Bonus Code Bets : “Yves Bissouma has the ability to play at a team like Liverpool.

“He could fill what Jurgen Klopp wants from the three midfield players.

“He is strong defensively, he works hard, he plays the ball quickly and every now and then when he needs to dribble, as much as we don’t speak about Brighton, you know he can do it, because he has [in the past].

“Of all the players playing in England, that could fit the template of Liverpool’s midfield three, he is one of them.

“He looks like Georginio Wijnaldum, although he doesn’t attack as much as Gini, because Brighton plays a different style of football, when Bissouma wants to he can.

“He is 24 and young, he would be a great fit.”
