Jamie Carragher lays into Tottenham’s midfield against Arsenal and says ‘there’s less space on the moon’

JAMIE CARRAGHER has ripped into Tottenham's midfield following their North London derby defeat against Arsenal.

The ex-Liverpool defender, 43, has claimed there was 'less space on the moon' as he lamented Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Spurs were embarrassed at the Emirates on Sunday as the Gunners ran out easy 3-1 winners following a first half blitz.

Nuno Espirito Santo hit out at his players for not following his game plan, and Carragher believes his midfield were to blame.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, the Sky Sports pundit showed clips of the trio in action where he was heavily critical of their defensive awareness.

He said: "One minute into the game: Dele Alli, Ndombele and Hojbjerg are the midfield players, and they are not in midfield positions.

"The only reason you'd stand there [so far from the ball and midfield], is if your manager has told you to go there.

"They wanted to go direct, but who to? Even if you win the ball, you need someone behind you to pick up second balls, but Dele Alli was on the same line as Harry Kane!

"When you look at the space in midfield… I don't think I've ever seen anything like it in my life.

"Where would you want them? Surely not there. There's less space on the moon than what you see in that midfield for Tottenham.

"It's actually unbelievable. The manager must have told them where to go: this is before the first goal. It was always going to happen."

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry then stated: "You talk about the moon Jamie, but [Arsenal's second] was like the Champs-Elysees, the best avenue you can see.

"We talk about Spurs and what they did, but take nothing away from Bukayo Saka, and how they wanted to enter these areas. The desire was there right from the start."

And the Frenchman has also revealed how Spotify owner Daniel Ek still plans to buy the club.

Speaking about the proposed takeover, Henry - part of the Swedish billionaire's consortium - said: "I think it’s going to be long.

"I think you remember me saying it’s going to be long.

"How long it’s going to be, I don’t actually know but we are here to stay."
