Steve Price had no problem with Jake Mamo making him feel like Tiny Tim - because his off-field approach has improved his performances.
In-form Aussie winger Mamo went viral last weekend with a zany post-match TV interview that gave Price an impossible act to follow. The Warrington coach said: “I was like Tiny Tim going on stage after Metallica.
“But he’s just got a really good balance in his life now, and I’m a big believer that if you get your off-field life right then it helps your rugby league.
“Jake’s done that and he’s playing some unbelievable footy - I’m really pleased for him and how he’s going about his business.”
Stand-off Blake Austin was referenced twice in the Sky Sports interview and he agrees with Price that Mamo has now found his feet at the Wolves ahead of Saturday’s Challenge Cup semi-final with Salford.
Austin smiled: “We’ve been having a few conversations. Jake has been a pretty happy-go-lucky-guy at the club for a couple of years now, and this year he’s made some really big strides forward which is what he alluded to in that interview.
“He’s a guy who’s been in and out for a while, but what he’s been doing off the field has been unbelievable and he doesn’t have those brain snap moments he used to.
“He’s a lot more consistent, and what an athlete and player he can be when he’s in that frame of mind.”
