Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho after reports claimed the Borussia Dortmund winger is open to returning to the city.

Sancho, 20, has been a revelation since leaving Manchester City for the Bundesliga aged just 17, and is expected to be one of the hottest transfer properties of this summer.

The England winger has scored 17 goals and registered 19 assists for Dortmund in all competitions this season, with his red-hot form has alerted Europe's top clubs.

United and Chelsea are believed to lead the chase for Sancho, but he has also been linked with Liverpool and a return to Manchester City, as well as various La Liga clubs.

And Old Trafford is the most likely destination for the winger this summer, according to The Athletic.

The publication says Sancho has many friends in the city from his time in Manchester - while another pal is his England teammate and United striker Marcus Rashford.

And one player who would definitely like to see him at United is Rashford, who says Sancho has the potential to be "world class".

"Hopefully we can all play together, that would be good," Rashford told Bleacher Report Live.

"He plays off the cuff, he's creative and imaginative, these are the things you need to be world class."

The Athletic reports that Liverpool and Chelsea are put off by Sancho's price tag - with Dortmund determined to stick to their £100million price tag as they bid to keep him at the Westfalenstadion.

Dortmund's chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said last week: "You always have to respect what the player wants. We already said before corona that our preference is for Jadon to remain with us.

"I can say clearly that even the very rich clubs, despite the current crisis, shouldn't think they can get a bargain from us. We don't have to sell anyone below their value."
