Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall has revealed she is already having doubts about the band taking a break.
The girl group announced their split on Thursday after 10 years together, but assured fans it was only temporary while they pursued solo projects.
Appearing on The Graham Norton Show moments after confirming the big news, Jade and bandmates Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock became emotional as they performed their latest single Between Us.
As they sat on the sofa to talk to Graham afterwards, a teary Jade said she’s been messaging the girls asking “are we sure we want to do this huns?”
“It’s clearly very emotional for you,” said Graham. “Very, don’t start us off again,” said Jade, wiping her eyes.
Graham asked: “Is this because of the announcement, the break?’
Jade replied: “It is. We’ve still got the tour to do next year and a couple more bits the end of this year. I just feel like it’s been 10 incredible years and we always said if we were going to take a little break it would be on an high, at our peak.
“Obviously we love each other to pieces and we’re family, so it seems like the right time.”
Before the band officially go on a break, Little Mix have their Confetti tour, which kicks off in Belfast on April 9, 2022 and ends with three gigs in London from May 12 to 14.
Leigh-Anne said: “Last night of the show, on the tour, we’re not going to be able to get through it are we. Oh my gosh.”
“Did you know the break announcement was coming for a while?” Graham asked.
“I think we had a little idea going into this year,” Jade said. “But still even now on the WhatsApp group I'm like ‘sure you want to do it huns?’ One last record?'
“But I think what’s really lovely is when we go off and do whatever it is that we do individually we can support each other through that and celebrate each other’s wins. It’s a lovely way to do it I think and we’ll always come back together.”
Little Mix rose to fame after becoming the first group to win The X Factor, after they were put together on the show in 2011.
They later become one of the most successful girl bands in the world, selling 60 million records, winning numerous music awards and spawning hits like Wings, Black Magic and Shout Out To My Ex.
Their latest album, Between Us, is a greatest hits compilation combined with new tracks.
Jesy Nelson was the fourth member of the band but quit in December 2020 saying being in the girl group had taken a toll on her mental health.
She has since signed a record deal with Polydor and released a single, Boyz, with Nicki Minaj, which got to number 4 in the UK charts.
Perrie and Leigh-Anne became mothers this year, both giving birth in August. Leigh-Anne welcomed twins with her footballer fiance Andre Gray. While Perrie is mum to son Axel, who she shares with boyfriend Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
