Rangers-linked Jack Wilshere has heaped praise on Steven Gerrard but insists there's been no Ibrox approach.

The midfielder was released by West Ham in the summer and is currently a free agent, with rumours linking him with a move to Scotland.

Gerrard played alongside Wilshere for England and has already brought fellow Three Lions team-mate Jermain Defoe north of the border.

However the former Arsenal man says he hasn't been approached by Rangers, while making clear how much he admires their manager.

Wilshere told Beanyman Sports : "There's been no contact.

"I've read all the rumours, but honestly there's been no contact.

"Listen, I played with Gerrard for England, I watched him growing up. He was one of my heroes growing up and he's a legend.

"But there's been no contact."

Wilshere's career has been plagued by injury ever since he broke through at Arsenal.

Once considered one of England's brightest talents the 28-year-old has made just 16 Premier League appearances for West over the past two seasons and has only once managed to rack up over 30 league games in a campaign.

He has nonetheless been capped  34 times by England, scoring twice.
