Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accidentally calls Boris Johnson Boris YELTSIN

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accidentally referred to the Boris Johnson as Boris Yeltsin, the former Russian president who died in 2007. 

The blunder, which was made on Sunday during a Cabinet meeting, was clumsily covered up with another clip of Netanyahu saying Boris Johnson's name.   

The Israeli PM, who was live on television, had been reporting back on his visit to London when he made the gaffe.

'I've returned from a very pleasant visit in London, where I've met with Prime Minister Boris Yeltsin and the US defense secretary,' He said.

His ministers immediately point out his mistake, to which Netanyahu smiles before correcting himself. 'Boris Johnson,' he said. 

He then said he was checking to see if everyone was paying attention, sparking polite laughter.  

Footage of the slip-up was later edited out of the official state video which was released by the prime minister's office on Twitter.

The moment Netanyahu said Yeltsin was overlapped with a different clip of him saying 'Boris Johnson'.

Eagle-eyed social media users were quick to spot the gaffe, sparking hilarious reactions.

Yeltsin, who served as president of Russian from 1991 to 1999, was famous for his drunken antics and hilarious photo calls.

Bill Cinton once revealed Yeltsin got so drunk during a presidential visit to Washington that he was found standing outside the White House in his underpants, trying to hail a taxi so he could go out for a pizza. 

It comes as Israel heads into the final week of campaigning for a second general election in five months. 

Netanyahu has been battling for political survival while facing a potential corruption indictment.

His campaign has been branded the long-serving leader as veteran statesman, after he developed special relationships with many world leaders.
