Former I'm A Celebrity winners looked disappointed as ITV bosses appeared to send them home as they were not needed for the new series, after being in isolation for two weeks.

Stars such as Joe Swash, Joey Essex, Charlie Brooks and Vicky Pattison appeared glum-looking as they packed their bags and headed back to see their families after finding out they are not being used on the reality show, according to The Sun.

It's believed the celebrities had signed themselves up to appear on the 20th series which is being held at Gwrych Castle due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And they had spent two weeks in isolation away from their loved ones in order to make a safe entrance on the show.

Actress Charlie Brooks

But it appears the stars are no longer needed as Joey and Charlie were seen packing their bags to leave their accommodation in North Wales.

A source told the publication: "It was never clear exactly what role the four stars would play on the series, but it's obvious they'd been chosen as they were among the most popular former contestants.

"They were being prepared through isolation to ensure there was no risk of them bringing coronavirus on to the set and infecting the other celebrities or the crew and causing chaos."

The show winners had to go through the same procedure as the 12 campmates in the castle.

They added: "But it's not clear why Joe, Vicky, Charlie and Joey haven't made it to the final stage and walked through the castle gates to join the other celebrities."

The stars were set to be brought in to add more drama to the new series, and it's believed they didn't know what their involvement in the show would be.

Vicky Pattison

According to reports, they were advised to get ready for "all eventualities" and were told to bring appropriate clothing for their stint.

An ITV representative declined to comment when approached by The Mirror.
