I hate my life and I’m ready for change, but don’t know where to begin

DEAR DEIDRE: I SEE people I’ve known from school on social media, showing off their perfect life, while I would like to end mine.

I’ve had 24 years of misery.

I had a terrible childhood – my parents neglected me and I was bullied. My mum had countless men and dad drank until he passed out.

My team and I are working safely from home but we are here to help you as always.

I skipped school and nobody cared. I ended up with no qualifications.

I’ve been working in a shoe repair shop and when I was furloughed, it made me take stock.

I hate my life but I dream of running my own business – until I realise I could never handle that.

DEIDRE SAYS: You can – but you need to build your confidence.

Don’t give up your day job but start by deciding what sort of a business you would like and find help through The Prince’s Trust, which helps with training and funding (, 0800 842 842).

You have had a tough start in life. You can also find emotional help for your unhappy childhood from NAPAC which supports people who have lived with childhood abuse (, 0808 801 1331).

If you’re feeling suicidal, do talk to your doctor.
