I am having such a hard time going through the menopause

HORMONAL MESS

DEAR DEIDRE: I AM having such a hard time going through the menopause. I’m 53. I keep forgetting things, such as appointments, people’s names and birthdays or doing silly things like filling the bath up with cold water.

My memory feels as if it is shot to pieces. At night I wake up in a pool of sweat and regularly have to change the sheets. It disturbs my husband, so he suffers too.

My team and I are working safely from home but we are here to help you as always.

I can be moody and irritable and when the hot flushes happen they are overwhelming.

It is making me feel anxious and out of control and I don’t recognise myself any more. I can’t carry on like this. I am wondering when would be the best time to start HRT and whether it would be a good option for me.

DEIDRE SAYS: Women experience the menopause in widely varying ways. It may help to remember that it is not unusual to feel that your body is changing dramatically.

There are many ways to alleviate your symptoms other than HRT so do talk it all over with your doctor.

This is a time when your body deserves some tender loving care. My support pack Understanding The Menopause will help you.
