Drivers travelling to work on Tuesday morning were told to avoid Humber Bridge after a road traffic collision.

It was reported around 9.05am that emergency services were attending to the incident.

Humberside Police reported that lane two of the northbound carriageway was blocked at the Hessle Tower.

Drivers in the area were initially told to avoid the area where queues were beginning to build up.

In a tweet, a spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "Emergency services are currently dealing with an RTC on the Humber Bridge. Lane 2 is blocked at the Hessle tower heading north.

Road users are being advised to avoid the area."

Humber Bridge News also tweeted a traffic alert, adding that there was queuing traffic northbound due to the crash in lane two.

Traffic now moving freely

Traffic is now moving freely along Humber Bridge, Humberside Police reported around 9.15am.

They stated: "Following our previous report of emergeny services in attendance at the Humber Bridge, Hessle, Lane 2 near to the tower heading north, we are pleased to announce that the road is now clear and traffic is now moving freely."
