Hull KR youngster Anesu Mudoti expects to be back for the start of the 2020 season as he steps up his recovery from a “freak” wrist injury.
The 18-year-old was the youngest of the five arrivals from Bradford Bulls, a signing made with an eye on the future.
Mudoti started training with his new team-mates at the beginning of November but suffered an early setback when he dislocated a wrist during a field session.
The young prop is well on the mend and hopes to return to full training by the start of February after visiting a specialist on Monday.
“I’m out of my cast now and they’ve given me a splint which I’ll have on for four weeks,” he told Hull Live.
“Then I’ll have two or three weeks of rehab and should be back for the start of the season.
“It happened during a full contact session and was a bit of a freak accident. I just went into a tackle and it happened.
“I felt it straight away and it was out for a couple of seconds and then I moved my arm and it popped back in.
“It was quite painful. I couldn’t really move my fingers about when it first happened but I got used to the pain.”
While a dislocated wrist could never be considered a blessing in disguise, the injury has allowed Mudoti to fix up a troublesome knee issue.
Unable to take part in field sessions, the teenager is working hard in the gym and has been given the green light to start running again now he is out of the cast.
“When it happened they said it was, not a good thing but it gave me a chance to work on other things,” he said.
“I’ve had a problem with my knee. I did my patellar tendon last season while I was at Bradford so I’ve been working on that and it’s improved a lot which is good.”
