An eight-year-old girl and a man have been killed in a house fire in Hull.

Emergency services were called at around 7.50am on Saturday to reports of a blaze.

Humberside Fire and Rescue worked to put out the fire and get all of the occupants out of the house, in Wensley Avenue.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the young girl died in hospital.

Police said officers were still at the scene while emergency services worked to establish the cause of the fire.

In a statement, Humberside Police said: “Emergency services are currently at the scene of a fire at a house on Wensley Avenue in Hull.

“Tragically two people have died in the fire. A man was pronounced dead at the scene, and an eight year-old girl, who had been taken to hospital, has sadly died.

“There will be a scene guard in place today as emergency services continue to work together to establish the cause of the fire.”
