Carlos Colberan has resigned as the manager of Huddersfield. One of his assistants, Danny Scofield, quickly succeeded him in search of continuity after nearly winning his promotion to the Premier League last season.
The Spanish, who had been in charge for two years, led Terrier to the playoff final of the championship and lost to Nottingham Forest.
But they were disappointed and surprised at his decision to quit Wednesday night. Formerly part of the staff in the back room of Marcelobi Elsa in Leeds, Colberan is understood to be out of line with another job.
It is believed that he believes that Huddersfield, who finished 20th in 2021, was in 3rd place as far as he could achieve at the Yorkshire Club. Huddersfield made a profit in the transfer market last summer because it didn't spend any fees and didn't have the budget to sign huge amounts of money.
Lee Bromby, Head of Football Business, said: "It's sad to accept Carlos' resignation. He clearly occupied most of the great season 2021-22, but then came to us for 24 hours and he was me. He revealed that he doesn't think he's the guy who moves us forward.
"I'm sorry for the timing, but over the last few years, I've built a coaching and support structure around the first team, We've been working hard over the last few years to provide continuity and stability in the event of change, and we've also created a succession plan just in case. "
Corberan gained a reputation for his first management position in England. Huddersfield wants to be able to do the same as Schofield seeks a smooth transition.
Scofield, who participated in Haddersfield 290 times, joined Haddersfield before the Spanish, but worked with Koberan as a coach for Leeds. He was considered a future townhead coach and declined to work as a manager in the European League this summer.
Bromby added: His work in our club was great and he got this opportunity.
Jorge Alarcon, one of Corberan's other assistant managers, left with him, but the third Narcis Pelach continues to work with Schofield.
Owner Dean Hoyle said: We felt the same, but we really believe we are in a great position as a club.
