How is Kate Garraway’s husband doing? Latest updates

Kate's ordeal

KATE Garraway's husband has been suffering with coronavirus.

Her husband, Derek Draper, has been in a coma after being diagnosed with the virus two months ago.

Derek Draper has been severely ill with coronavirus since late March - he's been hospitalised for seven weeks in a critical condition.

Derek is 52 years old, which research into the virus suggests makes him more vulnerable to being badly affected by it.

Kate Garraway has been open about her husband's condition and has spoken about staying strong for their children during last night's last "clap for carers".

In Kate's most recent post on Instagram, she shared that her "fear for Derek goes on".

"When I think of how hard Derek is fighting and the bravery of the #nhs it helps."

She added: "Even if we don’t clap next Thursday it won’t diminish my eternal thanks to all in the NHS.

"They are keeping Derek alive & everyone of them is fighting as hard as Derek is to give us the chance to be reunited. Hope has to keep us all going doesn’t it?"

Kate and her family haven't been able to visit Derek due to NHS guidelines, but staff have held a phone up so that she can talk to him and play music over FaceTime.

Many stars such as Piers Morgan and Ben Shephard who she hosts Good Morning Britain with.

Piers tweeted: “This breaks my heart. Few happier, more positive people than @kategarraway. Or a more loyal, decent friend & colleague.

"So many families like hers going through so much unimaginable anguish in this crisis. Sending all my love to Kate & continuing to root for Derek."

She’s thanked everyone for their ongoing support and wished other family’s going through similar struggles her best wishes.
