Sophy Ridge asks expert ‘how do you hug cautiously?’

Sophy Ridge was grilling the former Chief Scientific Adviser on his advice for people from Monday, May 17 when the next phase of lockdown restriction easing begins. Sir Mark burst into laughter as the Sky News presenter quizzed him on his "cautious hugging" recommendation.

The SAGE member said: "My advice is just because you can do something does not necessarily mean you should.

"As far as possible socialise outside, maintain social distancing, if you're going to hug, hug cautiously."

Ms Ridge asked: "How did you hug cautiously?"

Sir Mark joked: "We will have to create demonstrations, tight clinches should be possible.
