How do I claim my stimulus check? Step by step guide

NEARLY Nine million Americans have failed to sign up to receive their $1,200 stimulus check, as the IRS announced an October 15 deadline urging those to take action and claim their money.

On September 17, the IRS released a state-by-state breakdown of those who may still be eligible or don’t understand how to go about requesting their $1,200 stimulus check before next month’s deadline.

The stimulus checks are waiting for low-income, no-income, unemployed and even those who have become homeless due to the coronavirus pandemic.

These are the step-by-step rules you should do to claim your money if you don't typically file a federal income tax return.

Step 1: Full name, current mailing address and an email address.

Step 2: Date of birth and valid Social Security number.

Step 3: Bank account number, type and routing number, if you have one.

Step 4: Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) you received from the IRS earlier this year, if you have one.

Taxpayers who previously have been issued an Identity Protection PIN but lost it, must use the Get an IP PIN tool to retrieve their numbers.

Step 5: Driver’s license or state-issued ID, if you have one.

Step 6: For each qualifying child during 2019: name, Social Security number or Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number and their relationship to you or your spouse.

Filers cannot be claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer and have an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less if single.

If you're head of the household you must have an income of $112,250 or less, $150,000 or less if married filing joint return.

Reduced payments are available for those who earn more than the above amounts but still earn less than $99,000 per year or less for individuals.

If you're the head of the household you must have an income of $136,500 per year or less and $198,000 per year or less for married filing jointly.

Use the IRS Non-Filers tool to claim your stimulus check

Use the Non-Filers option to enter your information if you do not normally and are not planning to file a federal income tax return for 2019 for any reason including:

. Your income is less than $12,200.

. You’re married filling jointly and together your income is less than $24,400.

. You have no income.

Do not use this tool if you will be filing a 2019 return. This includes those who file a tax return to get a refund even though they are not required to file a tax return.

Using the tool instead of filing your 2019 return will slow down processing of your tax return and receiving any tax refund.
