Residents on one Merseyside estate have been warned about men "dressed in black" trying door handles on homes and cars in the area.

Merseyside Police said in the early hours of yesterday morning, June 22, two young men were "trying house and car doors" on the Scarborough Drive estate in Newton-Le-Willows.

The force warned residents to ensure all homes and cars are "properly locked" and that valuables are "put away" as investigations into the issue continues.

Nearby residents in the Ashton Road area were also alerted to a "stint of shed burglaries" and were given the same advice to make all valuables are secured and all premises are locked.

Taking to social media, St Helens Police said: "Residents of Newton Le Willows

"Ashton Road area please be aware of a stint of shed burglaries and ensure that all valuables are secured and all premises locked whilst we deal with these issues.

"Scarborough Drive estate please be aware that two young males dressed in black have been trying house & car doors in the early hours of the morning. Please ensure that all houses/cars are properly locked and that all valuables are put away.

"We are aware and investigating these issues, if you see anything suspicious please do report it."
