Heartbroken son’s ex-partner is poisoning his daughter against him

DEAR DEIDRE: MY son has fought to stay in his daughter’s life despite his ex-partner’s best efforts to poison her against him.

Now I’m worried she may actually be succeeding.

What she is doing to my son is so unfair

I’m a distraught 73-year-old grandad and am appalled by what is happening to my son.

He is 42 and my granddaughter is 14.

When my son and his partner split nine years ago his ex accused him of terrible crimes.

But social services supported my son in court and recommended he be allowed access.

He had a lovely relationship with his daughter but every time she goes home, his ex fills her head with awful lies.

My granddaughter has started self-harming but the ex blames my son for this.

Then last week my granddaughter texted to say she didn’t want to see my son any more.

He’s heartbroken but thinks it might be best for his daughter to stay away.

DEIDRE SAYS: Tragically, the ex-partner is so bitter she is locked on punishing your son – at the cost of anyone else.

Your granddaughter will undoubtedly be feeling vulnerable and hurt and would benefit from seeing a counsellor to provide an outlet for this upset, rather than self-harming.

Also, your son and granddaughter can both talk to Young Minds ( for some support.

Urge your son not to back away because your granddaughter needs him more than ever.
