Hull City boss Grant McCann has repeated the message that Jarrod Bowen will not be for sale next month, despite reports suggesting West Brom are preparing a £15m offer for the winger.
Bowen has been City’s leading light this season, netting 16 goals in all competitions to enhance his reputation as one of the Championship’s most gifted players.
That form has brought inevitable interest in the forward ahead of the January transfer window, with Leicester City, Newcastle United and Tottenham all linked with a swoop in the last seven days.
Championship table toppers West Brom have also been touted as a suitor and it is understood manager Slaven Bilic has made his liking for Bowen clear to the club’s board.
One report has suggested the Baggies would be willing to pay £15m next month but that remains £5m short of a sum Assem Allam recently said he would not entertain.
Allam joined McCann and his staff for the club’s Christmas dinner in Cottingham on Thursday and shortly afterwards the head coach stressed his belief that Bowen would not leave the KCOM Stadium next month.
“I think the club have made it clear that he’s not for sale,” said McCann. “Not in this window, anyway.
“We’re really pleased for Jarrod to be here and Jarrod is loving being here.
“He’s on 16 goals now. He got 22 in total last year and he’s on 16 already. The improvement from the boy since the start of this season has been second to none.
“We’re not even at Christmas yet so it’s a phenomenal return from him. Long may it continue.”
