Harry keen to heal 'rift' with William and present united front at Diana statue unveiling

Prince Harry ‘asked to fly home’ to see Philip claims expert

The Duke of Sussex is "desperately hoping" to attend the event on July 1 in Kensington Palace's Sunken Garden, a friend told the Telegraph. The date marks what would have been the 60th birthday of Princess Diana, and the report suggests they want to put on a united front at the event "in an attempt to move past their rift". Harry is said to be keen to "move on" in their relationship after reports suggested they had endured a turbulent patch in recent years.

In 2019, during ITV’s ‘Harry & Meghan: An African Journey’, Prince Harry said he and his brother were “on different paths”.

The Royal brothers commissioned the statue in January 2017 from the Gloucestershire-based sculptor, Ian Rank-Broadley.

They wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their mother's death and recognise all the good works she had done in both the UK and around the world.

The statue was supposed to be installed in Kensington Palace Gardens in 2019, but was postponed after Harry and William said they needed more time to "get it right".

At the time, rumours circulated suggesting that the postponement was due to a simmering feud between the two Princes, who were said to be "barely on speaking terms".

The unveiling will be the first time William and Harry will be seen together in public since the Commonwealth Day service last March.

It was at the service that the extent of the fallout between the two brothers and their wives became plain to see for all.

The Sussexes and Cambridges appeared barely to acknowledge each other during the event.

Neither of their wives are expected to attend the unveiling of the statue.

It still remains to be seen whether there Duke of Sussex will be back in the UK in time for the trooping of the Colour on June 12 or for his grandfather's 100th birthday on June 10.

It is thought that the birth of his second child, which is expected around that time, may force him to miss those events.

Princess Diana and her fiancé Dodi Al-Fayed died in a tragic car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.

William and Harry were just 15 and 12 respectively at the time of her death.
