A grandma who was left shocked by pictures of herself at Disneyland has lost a whopping nine stone.

Sharon Spruce, 48, was over 20 stone when she headed to Disneyland in 2018 and was unable to go on some of the rollercoasters because of her size.

Sharon, from Widnes, also found it hard to walk around the park and suffered from aching joints at the end of the day.

But it was after she saw a photo of herself from the holiday that she finally decided to shed the pounds - reports Cheshire Live.

Sharon has now gone from a size 28 to a 12, losing around nine stone in total.

She said: "I was on my dream holiday, but my weight was the one thing that was holding me back.

"I was hot, tired, in pain, and to top it off, I couldn't fit into some of the rides and rollercoasters.

"I had a photo taken on Main Street with Tinker Bell, and I was so sad when I saw it.

"I just knew it was now or never, so I made a promise to myself there and then that I would do something about it - and I did."

Sharon said she knew what she wanted and was determined to achieve her goals.

She said: "I had yo-yo dieted all my life and in the past I have lost weight, but would always quickly gain it all back and more.

"The changes started there and then, and I knew what I wanted and I was determined.

Sharon Spruce before and after her weight loss

"A few months after getting back from Disney, I began to eat more sensibly and lost around three stone.

"I was pleased, but I knew that I had a long way to go and that I hadn't really changed my habits.

"I wanted to understand my relationship with food better and I knew that if I was going to be successful for life and get to a target healthy weight, then I would need some expert support.

"I knew this couldn't be a quick fix."

Sharon decided to change things up and joined Slimming World in Widnes, led by Carli Hudson.

She said: "In February 2019, I signed up for Slimming World with Carli and, from day one, I was welcomed into my new Slimming World family.

"I lost weight slowly. Most weeks I has 1lb or 2lb, and some weeks I wouldn't lose any weight.

"I learnt that this was OK and that it was all a part of a long learning process.

"With support from my Slimming World friends and my amazing family, I carried on and didn't let any set backs put me off.

"I celebrated victories and I listened every week to Carli and the 8.15am members, especially the other amazing target members, and I began to really learn about myself and how to be healthy."

Sharon started to notice the benefits of her weight loss, both on her health and confidence.

She said: "As the weight dropped my joints started to ache less.

"I became more confident and plucked up the courage to start taking some 'Body Magic' (exercise).

"I started slowly and then eventually joined a local fitness group: The amazing Diva Fit UK.

"Lockdown came, which for me, like many others, meant challenges that I could never have prepared myself for usually.

"I would comfort eat but, this time, faced with such a devastating time, I made a promise to myself that the one thing that I could control was what I ate and how I looked after my body.

"Diva Fit also moved online so I would do a class most days in my dining room.

"I reached target at the beginning of May and I'm still at target now.

"I have dropped dress sizes, from a 28 to a 12, and lost around 9st in total, but it's the other benefits that mean the most.

"I became a grandma in January and my new body and energy levels allow me to keep up and play with him all day.

"I was meant to be heading back to Disney this year, but it will have to be rescheduled.

"But one thing is for sure: This time I will have no regrets."
