Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid defended her absent co-host, Piers Morgan, today as a guest blasted his "unhinged trolling".

Susanna hosted today's instalment of the popular ITV daytime show, alongside Ben Shephard while Piers remains off, when she was confronted by a guest about Piers's behaviour on social media - particularly towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Journalist Ayesha Hazarika spoke to the GMB presenters live from Edinburgh, where she hosted a tourism conference attended by Prince Harry, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Harry flew from Canada to London on a commercial flight earlier this week, before boarding a train to Edinburgh to attend the summit to talk about his new travel partnership, Travalyst.

When confronted about Harry's travel arrangements, Ayesha shut down claims that it was wrong of Harry to have taken a flight from Canada to the UK, given his new eco-friendly travel venture.

The conversation then moved to Harry's wife, Meghan, about whom Piers has been extremely outspoken.

Ayesha called out Susanna's colleague for "unhinged trolling" of the royal couple.

Ayesha said: "I think he and his wife have a platform as much as they have people who don't like them, sometimes sitting in the seats that you're occupying right now.

"They know that they have a lot of people that really support them and they are very passionate about a lot of issues."

However, Susanna offered a alternative viewpoint and defended Piers's actions, saying some may see it as criticism.

She said: "I know exactly what you're referring to, I'm not sure it's about not liking them. I think that if the person you're referring to was sitting here today, I think they might say they are targeting the hypocrisy, perhaps, behind some of the things they have done."

Ayesha responded: "Oh, Susanna, come on, it's like unhinged trolling."

One fan wrote on Twitter: "Susanna sticking the boot in now!"

Another added: "Opposite opinion now equals trolling."

A third said: "What, are you not allowed to say anything bad about Piers Morgan on the show now? Good on her for calling him out."

A fourth tweeted: "OMG Susanna Don't DEFEND Piers."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
